This thesis is an examination of the drag community in Halifax. Three tasks are undertaken. Firstly, this work addresses an absence of scholarship about gay and lesbian people, specifically drag queens and drag kings. Secondly, it locates drag within the theoretical arguments centered on the politics of gender, race and class. Finally, the thesis discusses the impact of region, particularly the Atlantic region, on drag culture. A comparative assessment of Halifax drag culture versus drag cultures in other North American cities is undertaken. |
