The crisis of neo-colonialism : the case of Trinidad and Tobago

Abstract

Trinidad and Tobago is a clear example of the crisis that permeates post colonial countries. The origins of the present crisis lie in the subordination of the country to the forces of the international economy. The present phase of global capitalism ensures that countries in the "Third World" (the periphery) will be unable to participate in or derive "benefits" from the "technological revolution". Recent historical conjuctures of imperialism foreclosed the possibilities of the East Asian NICs. Surviving or serving as blueprints dependency and underdevelopedment. However, the history of capitalism has been the present crisis and looming catastrophe of neocolonialism demand a challenge to imperialism and the imperatives of global capital accumulation and a reinvigoration of the socialist project.
