dc.description.abstract A survey was developed to gather user expectations of privacy and concerns related to network traffic monitoring. Data from people originating in 27 countries is presented. Empirical data was collected to determine user expectations of privacy at home, at work and at public hotspots. This data should provide a baseline of user expectations of privacy that may serve as a guide for those engaged in network security and privacy research. Our results indicate that a significant knowledge gap exists. This insight may help to guide training programs not only for individuals who process private data but for all employees. en_CA
