dc.description Photo of the west wall of the former Canadian Martyrs Parish and Chapel (adjoining the rear of McNally Building). There is a workman in suspenders in the far right corner. In 1970 this space was converted into a Reading Room by the Burke Library so students could study quietly for exams. This upper level was converted into the McNally Theatre Auditorium which opened on March 1 1982, with the stage moved to the east wall and the auditorium seating in the west wall. In 1989 the chapel's double-height basement gymnasium was converted into two levels housing the Faculty Lounge, IT office, The Den computer lab, and classrooms while still retaining the external facade of the original 1953 church.
dc.description Has a little typed caption in the corner that is part of the image in this copy that says: 'Saint Mary's University Chapel Halifax, N.S.' Picture appears on page 41 of Saint Mary's: An Anniversary Portrait by Anne West. Copyright of image belongs to the Archdiocese of Halifax Archives.
