dc.description.abstract An examination of 45 FDIC sponsored bank mergers and 118 normal mergers occurring in the United States between 1982 and 1988 find no significant returns accrue to the shareholders of the acquiring bank. This differs from earlier studies that find significant returns to acquired firm shareholders. en_CA
