Pauline Hingston, the first Irish Studies major to graduate from Saint Mary's University, stands between Pádraig Ó Siadhail (left) and Cyril Byrne, Co-ordinator of the D'Arcy McGee Chair of Irish Studies (right). All are dressed in academic regalia. Two women can be seen in the background.
From External Affairs. On reverse, '740.1' is written in blue pen in the top left corner and '#5' is written in black pen. A Post-It note stuck to the back has 'Conv F 96' written on it and scratched out, and 'Cyril Byrne bio' written below that in black pen. Typed on a piece of paper taped to the back is the following: '5. The first Irish Studies major graduated at fall's convocation. (Left to right): Dr. Padraig O'Siadhail, Pauline Hingston, Bachelor of Arts, Irish Studies major and Dr. Cyril Byrne, Co-ordinator, Irish Studies program." The photo appeared in black-and-white on page 8 of the December 1996 issue of the Saint Mary's University Times.
