dc.description Excellent condition
dc.description Psychology professor Dr. Paul Valiant (in white lab coat with lab gadget hanging around his neck) stands in front of what is probably a two-way mirror. He is looking down affectionately at a rat perched cutely on his right arm. The rat's operant chamber is visible to the right, with bottle of alcohol at the ready.
dc.description From External Affairs. On the reverse, '994.5' is written in black pen, '75%' is written in red pen, and '78-79' is written in blue pen, with the '79' circled. The words 'SAINT MARY'S INFORMATION SERVICES' are stamped on the back in black ink. The photograph appeared on page 2 of the April 1979 issue of the Saint Mary's University Times with the following caption: 'Dr. Paul Valiant is a member of the Psychology Department at Saint Mary's University. He is currently investigating the effects of alcohol on stress-related behaviours in rats. The rats are trained to level press for alcohol reinforcement in operant chambers and later exposed to increased workloads for the same reinforcement. Behavioural and biochemical measures are taken to determine the effects of alcohol on this task'.
