(L-R) Joe Fougere; and Gary Trenholm, students during the mid-seventies, team up for a job through Point Pleasant Park. Gary, who has been blind since he was five years old, divides his time between operating Dr. Piano (a tuning and repair shop) in Halifax, and his family. In 1978 Gary won the 1500 meter race at the National Games for the Blind held in Halifax. Later that same year at the Pan American Games for the Physically Disabled in Chicago Gary broke that meet's 10 kilometer record with a time of 38:45. Joe, a Halifax Police Officer, is one of a half dozen friends who help guide Gary during his runs. |
