b&w photograph
Good condition but sides are curling, right side is yellowing, and some small creases throughout.
Photo of a young Professor Allan Sabean with fellow Science undergraduate Gordon Phelan (plaid shirt) absorbed in a chemistry experiment. Both Sabean and Phelan graduated with a BSc in 1940 (although the 1945 Collegian yearbook claims Sabean also has a BA; see pg. 24, but this is unverified). In 1943 he achieved the rank of Lieutenant in the Canadian Officers Training Corps. Sabean was yearbook photographer from 1940-41 and 1956-58, photographed grinning with his characteristic pipe between his teeth. Sabean taught Chemistry at SMU from 1941-1985, and was Professor Emeritus of Chemistry from 1987-1993.
