b&w photograph
Very good condition: residue and stains in both right corners, crease extending downward from the word 'Champs", and tape marks on reverse.
The Intercollegiate hockey team is photographed at a banquet held in their honour after winning the provincial championship, with team captain/goalie and MVP Jim Pineo getting a congratulatory handshake from Father Keating (SMU President 1940-1943). Front row l to r: Gerry Reardon (Commerce class ca. 1944), D. Moriarty (Commerce class ca. 1944), Henry Kline (glasses, Arts class of 1943), Frank Hill (Commerce class of 1943), Jim Pineo ("Peener," in profile, Commerce class of 1944), Coach Harold Beazley ("Babe," slightly obscured, Commerce class of 1935), Coach Rev. McCarthy (glasses, Dean of Descipline), Wally Foley (glasses, Commerce class of 1944), Joe MacLellan (slightly obscured, Commerce class of 1946), Father Keating (in profile), and Herb Ernst. Back row l to r: D. Moriarty (Doug?, Commerce class ca. 1944), Marwood Gummer ("Butch," Engineering class of 1943), Bernie Mulcahy ("Bunny," Commerce class of 1944), Ed Godwin (Commerce class of 1945), Alex Allen ("Axle," Commerce class of 1945), Joe MacLellan (Commerce class of 1946), and Johnny Wylie (Engineering class of 1942). Some identification credited to alumnus Ervin J. Doak (Commerce class of 1960).
The Commerce students were inordinately proud of making up the majority of the team players. Reardon and Moriarty abruptly disappear after 1944. In that year there is a "Gerald Reardon" in the Army and a "Douglas Moriarty" in the Navy, so possibly they were called up.
