dc.description b&w photograph
dc.description Very good condition: black flecks throughout, size with matte 30.2 cm x 35.2 cm and tape along top edge of matte. Photo came with white frame matte attached.
dc.description Group photo of 31 boys and young men in five rows (3 rows standing, 1 row seated on chairs, 1 row seated on the floor). Both John Clancy (front row, far left) and Eddie "Ovie" Martin (third row, third from left) were Engineering students, but Clancy graduated in 1926 (finishing at Nova Scotia Technical College in 1928) and Martin did not graduate until 1928, but it was not unusual (although confusing) for Saint Mary's to combine multiple disciplines and years in one group photograph in the 1920s. The youngster seated crossed-legged in the front row (second from right) is Billy Murphy, who also appears in an Arts group photo, again mixed with upper year boys and actual graduates (second row back, far right) on pg. 29 of the 1928 Collegian yearbook. Further, Billy's Arts degree grad photo is found on pg. 8 of the 1930 Collegian yearbook. The boy in the third row (second from left) is Gerry Murphy (see also pg. 29 of the 1928 Collegian yearbook). Two more students are recognised from 98.04.0443 (First Year Arts and Engineering Class 1926): the cross-legged boy front row far right (in 98.04.0443, far left), and the teenager in the second row from the back, third from left (in 98.04.0443, back row, fourth from left). These two cannot be identified because as of 2015, no hard copy of the 1925 or 1926 yearbooks has yet been located. The cross-legged boy also appears on pg. 30 of the 1930 Collegian yearbook.
dc.description Embossed in lower right corner of matte: 'Gauvin & Gentzel, Halifax, Canada.' Written in pencil on reverse: '3.,' '1925-26' and '71.0'. From Art Gallery.
