dc.description Edmund Morris (former Halifax mayor, assistant to the President, SMU President 1970-1971) addresses the new Board of Governors at their first meeting after the secularization of the university,which is no longer the property of the archdiocese of Halifax. Archbishop James M. Hayes (Arts class of 1943, Chancellor 1970-1980) is seated left. Pictures also found on pg. 3 of "This Week at St. Mary's" Vol. 1 No. 1. Morris received an honourary Doctor of Civil Law in 1986.
