dc.description Edmund Morris (left, former Halifax mayor, assistant to the President, SMU President 1970-1971) signs documents making the university a secular institution. Fellow Board member Lawrence Hayes (of Halifax law firm McInnes, Cooper & Robertson) stands as he witnesses the signature. Morris received an honourary Doctor of Civil Law in 1986.
