Abstract:
This paper compares recruitment of paid staff in a study done with 26 nonprofit organizations, 13 in the UK and 13 in Canada. The qualitative study looks at a number of features in the area of recruitment and selection including job analysis, job descriptions, advertising and equal opportunities. The organizations were matched mainly according to mission. All the organizations provided a range of human services. The organizations’ size
and the training of its human resources managers are factors in assessing how well recruitment and selection are managed in the selected organizations. The comparative nature of the research – Canada and the UK – allows for a rich contrast and highlights national and cultural differences in these aspects of human resource management.
